About Kathy

Kathy Crawford grew up in a modest farm life, so she understands the value of hard work and a well-earned dollar.  During her youth, she lived on two different farms before the extensive commercial and residential development came to Novi.  Her farms were at 12 Mile and Haggerty, and at Grand River and Meadowbrook.  Because Novi High School had yet to be built, Kathy attended Farmington High School and Farmington Middle School.  Because her family moved three times, Kathy attended elementary schools in Northville, Wixom and Walled Lake.
Kathy worked as a professional in the Field of Aging for more than 30 years in Oakland County.  She retired from the City of Novi in 2004 to launch her own business, Kathy Crawford Communications.
In 2007, she was elected to the Novi City Council. Three years later, she was elected to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, representing the 9th District (Novi and part of Northville). In November, 2012, she was overwhelmingly re-elected to the same post.

In 2014, Kathy was elected to her first 2-year term as a State Representative for Michigan's 38th District.  She was overwhelmingly re-elected to a second 2-year term in 2016.

Now, Kathy seeks re-election for a third and final 2-year term in November, 2018.

Kathy and husband, Hugh, have been married for 53 years. Hugh currently serves as an Oakland County Commissioner (R-Novi). In November, 2008, he was elected a Michigan State Representative for the 38th District, where he serves for six outstanding years.

Kathy and Hugh were baptized and married at the Novi Methodist Church, now located on Beck just south of 10 Mile Road.  They have three grown children, Doug, Amy and Kelly; and two grandchildren, Alexis and Devin.

Kathy has authored several workbooks for senior center directors.  She is a frequent workshop presenter and keynote speaker.  Kathy also co-authored the book "Two Broads Abroad,” detailing a six-week trip overseas. Kathy is active in the Novi Theater Productions and a myriad of City of Novi projects. She has received numerous state and local awards for her community service and innovative program ideas.
